Bill Maher - Cannabis Celebrities
Possibly the biggest supporter for marijuana legalization in the USA is
television talk show host Bill Maher.
The host of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher is such an outspoken supporter of legal marijuana (and other taboo political topics) that body guards have occasionally had to live in his guest house because of death threats.
Maher has dedicated much of his career to promoting the legalization of marijuana.
Not only is Maher a well known public pothead, but he's bonghitting bachelor who's often at spotted the Playboy Mansion.
He's a regular guest on CNN Larry King Live.
In one episode Maher defends Tommy Chong.
"On the anniversary of 9/11, they arrested Tommy Chong for selling bongs over the Internet, Larry. We cannot allow that to happen. Do you feel safer?
Do you feel safer now?
Larry King: You favor the legalization? Maher: Of course. Another no-brainer."
During his most recent appearance, Maher took a pot shot at Olympic RooR bong using athlete Micheal Phelps.
Referring to pothead Phelps as a coward for apologizing for being photographed inhaling from a RooR bong.
Maher's given many motivational pro toke talks to activists who are fighting for marijuana legalization at conventions and seminars.
His comments have even drawn furry from The White House.
Shortly after 9/11 White House spokesperson Ari Fleischer told media that, "Americans need to watch what they say, watch what they do." In response to the press corps questions about comments Maher made on his then ABC program, Politically Incorrect w/ Bill Maher.
A show that originally began on the Comedy Channel.
On the program, Maher had a variety of unique guest panelists who would debate and berate political topics of the day.
Unfortunately national advertisers opted to drop their support of the program because of its daring political content.
Ensuring it became unprofitable for ABC to air. For a 2006 Rolling Stone interview, Maher took the reporter to Venice Beach, California in search of marijuana toys.
The staffer at the head shop Maher visits suggests he purchase a Volcano Vaporizer.
Maher responds, "Oh, I've got one. I once gave a Volcano to a high-powered studio executive who shall remain nameless. He was having respiratory problems."
Maher says his political opinion isn't Democrat or Republican, but Libertarian. Though some Libertarians have called his stance Liberal.
He sits on numerous boards of non government organizations (NGO's), including People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws (NORML).
